Will come to Israel to help look after us?
Our donkeys need you! We are looking for animal-loving, caring people to help us out at the sanctuary in Israel on a voluntary basis, ideally for a duration of 14 days or more. The work at the sanctuary requires a high level of maturity. You should be in good physical health, self-sufficient, confident and capable because we don’t have staff who can look after you. A fair knowledge of the English language is necessary as well and you will need to have a valid health insurance.
As the sanctuary is financed entirely through donations, we are always on the lookout for dedicated, animal-loving volunteers to help out with the stable work, feeding and caring for the animals, and making sure the animals are also safe at night. At the moment, there is a particularly urgent need for help. We provide very basic overnight accommodation on the sanctuary premises, consisting of a small room with 2 single beds which can be shared by 2 volunteers if needed, plus a shower, a toilet and a small cooking facility. A small local grocery shop is a 5 minutes' walk way, and a little further along the neighbourhood you can find delicious Arab and Israeli street food.
Our sanctuary is located in Burgata, Central Israel. It houses 53 donkeys, 2 horses and several rescued dogs and cats. Burgata is a small and quiet village about 40km north of Tel Aviv and about 14km east of the lovely sea-side town of Netanya, which, thanks to Israel's good public transport network can be reached from the sanctuary in 20-30 minutes by bus.
